Question to Catholic Christians: Pope John Paul II becoming a Saint??
I have heard in the news that a women was miraculously cured of cancer after praying to the deceased Pope John Paul II. I've heard that in order for the pope to be "classified as a Saint" a second miracle must occur? What is a Saint? Why do people pray to them when they should only be praying to the one and only God? As far as I know praying to or connecting with deceased human beings are a sin as clearly described in Deuteronomy 18. God should get all the credit for curing that women, not a deceased human (even a pope)!

- a saint is people that went to heaven and has proved preforming miracle when he or she was alive
- If was a saint, what perks did he get for his sainthood... It all a fariry tale and a good marketing ploy
- John Paul II was an all-around good guy. And we don't exactly Pray to Saints, I think it's more like asking for help. I think he should become a saint. But I think that Cancer thing is a bit odd. Cancer just doesn't poof away like that...(Also, "Catholic Christians" is a bit redundant, they're the same thing) A saint is pretty much God going "Hey, I like you, you can hang out with me." to someone. Well, that's my version anyways. It's actually done by a long and boring process. How they do it, I do not know.
- It's really not hard to get a couple of miracles for sainthood. you just get some poor farmer from Equador to say his penis grew ten inches after he prayed to picture of John Paul II dressed as a rodeo clown. Christians have a long history of fake miracles, starting with the loaves and fishes.
- A Saint (capital "S") is a person who is singled out for honor and respect by the Catholic Church for their extraordinary devotion to God and mankind. There are many, mnay more saints than those listed by the Catholic Church. Every person who believes in Jesus Christ is a saint, but only some are officially recognized and honored by the Church. Catholics pray to the Saints in Heaven AND to God. Paul asked his followers to pray for him many times. Jesus conquered death, so death does not separate us from the ones that we love. The saints in Heaven are not dead; they have everlasting life. God DOES get the credit for curing that woman, but it was done through the intercession of John Paul II.
- There is no way....that popes should be saints....when you speak of saints..you think of St Francis of Assissi....St Theresa....St Patrick....St Mungo(Patron Saint of Glasgow)...St Anthony the Hermit....and the real christian martyrs who died in Ancient Rome....not just anyone
- A little clarification here: A canonization today is the Church's official declaration, through the decision of the pope, that a person is a saint, truly in heaven and worthy of public veneration and imitation. The process begins by naming the person "Venerable," a "Servant of God" who has demonstrated a life of heroic virtue. The next stage is beatification, by which a person is named "Blessed". This step requires one miracle attributed to the intercession of the Servant of God. For canonization, a second miracle is needed, attributed to the intercession of the Blessed and having occurred after the individual's beautification. Miracles are not required for martyrs. The pope may dispense with some of the formalities or steps in the process. Secondly, one must not become confused on whom miracles originate from. The miracle itself comes from God and God alone. No human, on earth or in heaven, has the power to do this. Only God. The miracles are simply attributed to the intercession of the saint that was prayed to. The nun you're referring to had Parkinson's disease. It was reported that upon praying to John Paul II, she was cured - God gracing her with this miraculous healing through the intercession of John Paul II. The Church is currently investigating this. God bless.
- We pray to saints - because God is a busy man! The saints and apostles are like 'Area Managers' to God's "CEO". As each saint is responsible for a particular thing - i.e. St Christopher is patron saint of travellers, Archangel Raphael is the patron saint of the blind. Technically I thought that 3 miracles had to be associated with a 'canon' before they were made a saint. However the Vatican could have changed this. But either way - God caused the miracle - so I agree he should get the credit.
- well as a christian and occasionally pray to god almighty( we do sometimes not mandatory god has so many prayers to answer from all greed's ) and ask for help he sends me to one who can aid me in my quest for help sometimes he/she can help sometimes not but it gives me solace (comfort ) in my time of need so don't knock it ..we as Christians aren't stupid keep an open mind why don't you
