To all americans i have a question about medicare how do you live with no health care?

seriously i am sorry i do not mean to insult your country but how does the biggest country int eh world, have such a bad medicare system? are you always scared to get sick? people should not go in to debt for getting sick people shouldnt die over things we found cures to years age cause they dont have the money too see a doctor that is my idea of a third world country right there , were peoples health depends on their wealth were the goverment basically says that a poor persons life is nto worth saving ... what are your thoughts on this? I am from canada i will admit we fail in some areas , - our system legal sytem blows pedfiles get between 1 and 4 years how sick is that ? and legal age for sex is 13 making it legal for a 50 year old to sleep with a 14 year old witch is also gross. but our medicare system is awsome! your sick you get bette ryou never worry about not being able to afford a doctor doctors are always frEE! wahoo lol

  1. Because we don't trust the Federal Government to administer health care and we're too lazy to petition our state and local governments. The U.S. Federal Government is extremely inefficient and a national health plan would probably cause more harm than good. We are not Canada or the U.K. - in general, no American hospital will turn away a person that needs treatment. Where the U.S. system fails mostly is in prevention. this is somewhat due to our obese culture and lack of basic health education. -- Contrary to what you're saying in Canada - your health care isn't free. The Doctors expect to get paid, the equipment costs money, the medications cost money. Someone is paying. That someone is you - by having a tax rate that is 37% of GDP vs the 27% of GDP of the U.S. Trust me - the U.S. federal government would be competely inept at adminstering a healthcare plan - they can't get immigration right, foreign policy right or just about anything. The last thing the Feds need is more money and power.
  2. Yes, the situation is stupid, although many people do have adequate health insurance. We've left behind our poor and underprivilaged to suffer. However, we do try to accomodate those people if we can (I volunteer at a free health clinic for people without insurance). No hospital will turn away someone who is dying because they have no insurance. There are ways to care for those without insurance. The biggest problem, I suppose, is just trying to implement a new health care system. It's a huge ordeal, and very difficult to pass legislation on in our current government (with its deep divisions).
  3. all most care about here are taxes, to be more specific not paying them, some say I don't want to pay for someone else's health care, but they don't realize they would get it too. That is really the only argument I heard on the subject.
  4. I have wondered the same thing. A country as wealthy as ours should not have anyone living without good health care. We send billions of our tax dollars overseas to help downtrodden countries, when we have people dying in this country of things they should not be because they can't afford the hospital bill. Its a travesty and an embarrassment.
  5. Our government doesn't give a rats a** whether we have health care or not. Strike that- They care about giving health care and money to the illegal immigrants that sneak over, but not to the people born and raised here. Silly me for not getting it right! I have no health insurance and I only see a doctor when I am in major pain or am forced to. I have a potentially deadly disease which needs treatment, but I can't afford to keep up with the medications and constant doctors appts needed. This country cares more about funding never ending wars than it does about its own people. Thumbs down me! Hurry!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I couldn't agree more, but unfortunately it is the way America is set up. We're based on values of capitalism, and medicine is big business. Excuse me, BIG business. But we pay; we have to. I personally don't see any other option right now. What would we do? A switch to public health care would deal a catastrophic blow to an already shaky economy and would add even more problems to the mound of sub-par accomplishments we have achieved in recent years (sorry iphone, I’m talking more moon-landing, cancer curing type stuff). Don't forget the worse is yet to come also. A diet of processed food, and junk liquids cannot sustain any sort of society for too long. What's the plan when the baby boomers hit elderly ages? Social Security is done, a majority of Americans have a negative savings record, and the people eat treated food, packaged under questionable conditions. Our kids don't stand a chance either. Between global warming, education hitting all time lows (not compared to the cavemen era) health care, or another Bush running the white house, it is not looking good. I know this is a bit broad of a criticism to American life, we could go into detail all day, but I hoped it gives you some sort of insight into what I believe is the bigger picture of America's future. I really do hope I'm wrong, but I think the Boy Scout's got it right - "Be prepared." Why not? Educate everyone, not just children. Find cleaner energy sources, with the oil companies if you have to (ed note: not the only way to stop global warming). And at least start some sort of transition into universal health care. We do have police departments, post offices, fire departments, and even jails. Why not health-care? After that we can live on with our third world lifestyle. And to answer that question about a capitalist country that doesn't care for the poor? Well, poor people don't pay very many taxes. But then again, that’s another conversation.
