Does anyone know if the debt solution program by John Cummuta works?

  1. It seems to, but you could get the same information for free elsewhere. It seems commonsense, like paying more than the minimum payment on credit cards and such. I think that Dave Ramsey's books/programs could do better, though I'm not his biggest fan. (I think that if you use credit RESPONSIBLY and live within your means, you should be ok... how many people could buy a house without a mortgage?) Suze Orman also offers good advice. You may want to pick up a copy (or, better yet, borrow from your local library!) of "Pay it Down! From Debt To Wealth on $10 a Day" by Jean Chatzky. I read this book and while it's pretty basic, it's generally good advice. David Bach ("Automatic Millionaire") talks about the latte factor... mindless spending can really sabbotage getting out of debt. If instead of paying yourself first (Roth IRA, 401(k), etc) you put the money into extra payments to credit cards or prepaying a car loan or mortgage (assuming there's no prepayment penalty). Pay off the highest APR first and make payments on time.
